What impressed you more, Dallas or Dynasty?

Dallas is kinda male oriented while Dynasty is all about fashion and drama so I guess you preferred Dallas?

Never watched either, not even a single episode, so far as I can recall.

The series I liked best was Deadwood. Saw it well after the initial run,
maybe only two years ago.

Couldn't really connect with The Wire, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos. There
was initial interest but somehow they didn't really connect with me.

..and you?

Watched bits of Sopranos, it was ok but it felt like TV Godfather. Generally mafia movies bore me with all those Italian clichés so I never became a fan.

The Wire felt as sci-fi, I watched it tio but didn't really enjoy it.

This was all in TV era, you watched what was on. Breaking bad was later I already moved online and stopped watching TV.

I never watched Dallas and I know Dynasty being a phenomena from late 1980s in Yugoslavia.

But on paper those two shows seem very similar (oil?) so I wondered what's the difference for natives.

Dallas was the best, Larry Hagman as the baddie... Sue Ellen/Lind Gray
drunk wife, Charlene Tilton as little sex bomb Lucy...... Bobby,
Pamela/victoria principal (there was even a song in Finland about her).
Cliff Barnes.... haha, it was just priceless.
JR's secretaries etc... there was A LOT eye candy in that series.

Just a classic.

Dynasty was ok, not as good, always felt like an imitation. Joan Collins
was good in her role. Heck I hardly recall any other actors from the
series just now, while could keep on listing the Dallas characters and
their cousins...
Oh yes, John Forsythe (played Charlie's voice in original Charlie's
Angels)... ummm... Heather Locklear?

Was JR sorta like an early Trump-like character? A sorta high-end macho
winner?

KK can relate to the fact that I was too busy smoking up back then to
watch TV... ;^)

A winner and macho yes. Also very crooked & cunning & almost completely
lacking morals. In contrast his brother Bobby was like the nicest guy
ever. Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval real name to my recollection) usually
got the short end of the stick against JR. Cliff was like JR's business
competitor number 1... and was the brother of JR's bother's wife. :)
