Alcaraz is playing with Nadal using the singles mentality and
Nadal is also more of baseliner mentality but with more
experience in doubles, and I don't see this working against good
doubles teams.
Anyway I am cheering for them but I have that feeling it won't
work, maybe a miracle in 3rd set tb.

They'd need to win a few matches to gel better, maybe.

I think Rafa is the best doubles player there is, but maybe not in this
form. Still Rafa has been so far better of the two by far, Alkie not
having played almost at all doubles shows...

Still, a dream team...

yes Nadal is very good at doubles, always said he mostly played doubles
to improve his volleying, that pretty cool. McEnroe told others to do
the same but only Nadal listened.

Yeah, Carlos was nervous, doesn't want to let Rafa down. I agree they
should get much better from here. Rafa is a pretty good doubles player
when he does play.

I agree that Carlos was probably nervous, was broken on first service
game etc & improved gradually as the match progressed. Rafa started the
match strong, I almost posted here that every time Rafa touches the ball
they win the point, but didn't wanna jinx it... well, his level did drop
a bit after the strong start and especially returning wasn't very
effective, returning too far back giving the net guy too much time.

I think normally Rafa can return that far back on doubles because he
normally hits harder/more accurately than currently... AND if I recall
correctly he normally returns on ad-court, so that he can hit crazy
angled forehands giving the net lurker slim chances.

It's interesting why they decided to have this sort of return position
where BOTH players return cross-court with their BACKHANDS, not
forehands. Maybe they think that Carlos' bh return is stronger.

But it certainly looked rather challenging approach seeing Rafa running
around his bh to hit cc forehands during some rallies.

I got 2 of the new RF97, the gold brown ones. Jabeur and Zheng use it.
I really like it, but have to hit a smaller sweet spot to hit my best
shots. It's amazing when I do connect, serving more aces than ever.

haven't tried that Fed racquet in years, vaguely remember trying it but
found the head too small after playing a lot with Babolats, also isn't
the 97 very similar to Sampras' old Prostaff?
