I know Alcaraz has been resting (and partying) following the Olympics and Monfils already secured a win in Cincinnati against an in-form Popyrin who is Canada champion, but still this is a very bad result for Alcaraz.

Is he still jaded or what?

I kinda feel he's tanking, getting a rest before USO.

Alcaraz is a transitional champ. He's not gonna last.

He's going to be a Sampras type champ, not giving too many fucks outside
of slams. Look what he did at FO this yr - no tune-ups yet still takes
the big one.

Well, at least both look like something that just swung out of a tree.

When in the mood Monfils is kinda dangerous against anyone. Especially
in BO3 where he's less likely to tire himself out. Good to see "the old
man" winning still.

I watched him vs Rune yesterday. He lost in three, but he looked
honestly physically beat yesterday. He has the genetic stamina
difficulty and he just could not be consistent enough to overcome Rune,
who, sad to say, is probably at his high water mark right now.

Rune is one of the most clueless players I've seen in a very long time.
He has a good amount of athletic talent, not really well translated into
tennis-specific skills, and no actual consistent dominant weapons, like
serve or FH.

It's funny to see anyone expecting Alcaraz to win every match.
Let's think for a minute. Alcaraz is the only player that played
all the matches in the last three major events, RG, Wimbledon,
Olympics.
He won two and was the runner up in the Olympics.
He played on clay, moved to grass then ended up on clay.

Then you expect him after all of this to find his best form in the
fastest surface against losers that played almost no matches in
the last three months?

Yes. He's not some frail old man, this is what we expect from the
greatest.

Carlos doesn't seem too bright overall but as far as tennis goes he's a
genius. He's going to be a top fave at all slams and will try and win
enough to secure yr-end no.1. Ultimately that's all that counts in
tennis for the goats, and Carlos understands that very well. Guys like
Federer and Djokovic are rare beats, they wanted to win everything no
let downs. Carlos is not like that. I don't have a problem with that
approach, as long as he brings the goods at slams.

The point is, his job is to play tennis and he's supposed to be
one of the very best. If playing a couple dozen matches over the
course of months is too much for him it's time to pack it in.
Most modern players are like whiny, entitled wimps compared to
those that came before, imo.

He said this was the worst match he's ever played - not very gracious to
Monfils who has been playing very well this year.

Carlos said he wants to be yr-end no.1 so putting pressure on himself.
