Hello there!

Beating Djoker in the Shanghai ATP1000 final
secured Jannik Sinner #1 year end ranking.

What a great achievement! Carlos Alcaraz as
#2 is a long way behind when you examine
their ATP points.

I want to congratulate Jannik Sinner and all
italian tennis fans!

It is, but he's got to figure out how to beat Alcaraz.

If you could suggest to him *how*, it might be fun to discuss.

At first thought, it's not apparent to me just how he can do it, but
*maybe* if he improved his volley, because in the current match-up,
Alcaraz has two aspects to his game--and uses them fairly frequently--to
Sinner's disadvantage: volley and drop shot.

In both cases Sinner is comparatively weak, in my opinion. Volley,
alone, might be enough because Alcaraz can, himself, get to almost all
volleys in time to do something with them.

Imo Carlos has more variety and options winning points, and a higher
ceiling overall. Of course this is a blessing and a curse. It means
Carlos will lose strange matches to lesser players but also be able to
beat Sinner/Novak at their very best. If Carlos really gets pumped v
Sinner every time then I think there's not much he can do to come out on
top. It's a bit like Sampras getting up to play Agassi (6-0 h2h at
USO/Wim). Sinner is an amazing player, huge power these days and
mentally as tough as it gets. Carlos has to get pumped to beat him, he
won't give him anything.

I am way too stupid to give any advice to Sinner. The
only concrete piece of advice I could give is that
*perhaps* Sinner should use sliced backhands more often to
disrupt Alcaraz's groundstroke rhythm.

I just checked and head-to-head is 6 wins for Carlitos
and 4 for Sinner. The difference is not that huge, but
the last three meetings have gone Alcaraz's way.

That could well change in the following meetings. Their
last match was ATP500 final somewhere and I seem to
remember that Sinner lead 3-0 in the third set tie-break,
but Alcaraz took 7 points in a row to clinch the victory.

All in all, it was a very close match that could have gone
either way. If I were Sinner, I would not be very worried.

My suggestion for Sinner, get a better doping doc.

My suggestion for Sinner, get a better doping doc.
As a multimillionaire and ranking #1, Sinner already
has full access to all the best doping resources that
money can buy.

All the top athletes need the following to succeed:

1) Talent (i.e. good genes)
2) Enormous amount of practice
3) Healthy food, nutrition and drinks
4) Enough rest to recover and develop
5) Great doping substances

Second, fourth and fifth go hand-in-hand.
Doping, among other things, allows you to
recover quicker so you can practice more and
also in tennis you can play many draining
matches at a high level.

Tennis is no exception, it is full of
doping. Not so long ago, somebody in the
ATP circles came out and revealed that
50% of Top 100 male tennis players
have ADHD diagnosis, so they can freely
use Adderal and similar amphtamine-based
"medication". I have heard that using
"speed" has been common in professional
tennis at least since the 1970s. No
wonder, since it gives you quicker
reflexes, improves concentration and
makes you more alert.

Using "speed" helps e.g. when receiving
those massive serves nowadays. Even if
the improvement is only fractions of a
second, you will benefit from it and
you will make more and better returns.
That means you have better chances of
breaking serve so it is very important
indeed.

Tour De France is probably one of the
best examples of what cyclist can achieve
with proper doping. The race is simply
staggeringly inhuman with little or no
rest between racing days. It is amazing
what they go through to make it to the
finish!

It would be childish to think that the
top cyclists would be clean. They are
far from it. Bodybuilding, power lifting,
those are also completely full of doping.

Tennis is a wonderful sports from the
spectator's point of view. With the sole
exception of December, ATP/ITF organizes
great tournaments all over the world all
the time. So much entertainment for us
to enjoy.

Top tennis players absolutely need doping
in order to survive on the ATP Tour. As
tennis fans, we just have to accept it
and be okay with it. We are no longer
children so we can drop belief in fairy
tales.

Nadal, Djoker, Federer, were they clean?

No fucking way!

Maybe, but they weren't caught during very long careers, even
once. Sinner was caught twice. So my point stands, he needs a
better doping doc.

None of the Tour De France cyclists were caught this year
either.

Yes, great achievement.

Still I'd prefer Alcaraz's year - Wimbledon and FO is hard to top. I'd
happily take no.2 ranking for those 2 slams. Also the only play Sinner
couldn't beat this is Carlos 0-3 h2h.

How? Alcaraz is 7 + 4 = 11 while Sinner is 3 + 5 = 8 without deducting points for juicing

"How" what? What are those numbers?

Sinner has a clear lead in the ATP rankings and
will be #1 at the end of the year, regardless of
what happens now.

Winning any of those tournaments gives you
2000 ATP points.

Seems fair, even though Wimbledon is so lame
that they could give only 1500 for winning it.

Sinner deserves no.1 ranking as he has most points, but I personally
would take Wim/FO over what Sinner won.
